Buffalo On The Move
Great look at the buffalo herd trotting by. The contrast between the open skies of this HP and Mount Elbert two days earlier ... well, that's highpointing. HP #20.

With my wife
My wife doesn't often get to chase a state highpoint since all the ones I've done pretty much are in the west but it was fun to be able to share this one with her. We had also planned to go get North and South Dakota but a bad wheel bearing in my truck made us head home so I could get the thing fixed.
Oh yes, we stopped at the rest area off exit 401 and got a map that really helped find the HP from the information center located there.

Plus Tri - State Marker
After Panorama Point we visited the Tri-State marker. Note the Tri-State Marker sign is gone. Turn off where the dirt meets the pavement.

This was a 2nd HP on a road trip after getting promoted to Capt in the USAF (Kansas was #1). did a detour into CO/WY before looping back into Nebraska. saw the triple point too. nice easy drive, great weather.

This was a nice break for me. I met some other Highpointers there as well. I signed the log beneath their names and 2 days later I saw their names in the log at the Kansas HP!

First of four
Had a fun ride out from Denver to do this drive-thru high point as the first of four I just did on a fantastic 10-day vacation. Coming from Massachusetts, I actually enjoyed the farm and grassland landscape on the way, and saw a couple of herds of bison from the summit marker - cool stuff. HP #6

Took a detour from I-80 to visit this. We saw an interesting dust devil in a field on the way back to the interstate. The kids ranked this HP as slightly more exciting than Mt. Sunflower.
It's absolutely surreal to be at this highpoint in the middle of the night. Once we arrived, we shut off the lights, and we could only sense two things: the lights on presumably windmills in the distance in Colorado (hey, it was dark, I couldn't tell!) and the pack of coyotes off in the distance. It was dark dark DARK. Easier to find than I expected.

Hate night drives!
Couldn't see much except the creepy tombstone looking sign that stood on the high point. We didn't see anyone else there at 3:30 am either, kind of strange...

Not much Panorama at 2:30am
Stopped by on my way back from a two week road trip out to Lake Tahoe. Did Magazine, Black Mesa, Wheeler (NM), Wheeler (NV), Boundary and Montgomery on the way out to Tahoe. Wasn't much to see in the middle of the night except the red lights from the windmills. At the tri-state marker I encountered a cow and her calf grazing.

Successful? barely. ha ha
Hit it on the way back from hiking Harney in SD. Nebraska has some nice bluffs and small peaks near Chadron. Was a little disappointed that the HP was not there in the green hills. But a highpoint is a highpoint.
