Foggy and soggy  Sucess!

A very foggy and wet solo climb up. No views but no ice either, so didn't need my spikes. Poles were handy in the boggy areas. Saw about 10 people total all day. A lovely day overall and the rain/snow held off so I stayed pretty dry except for my boots. :)

long hike in from Fox Hollow  Sucess!

from Fox Hollow. Bare booted until just beyond the Fox Hollow lean-to. There is a beautiful spring where clear fresh water can be tapped at the side of the lean-to.

Micro-spikes were sufficient from the lean-to to summit. Cloudy and snow flurries and windy above 3000 ft

The view down onto Panther Kill & valley below from a ledge near the summit is beautiful

From giant ledge   Sucess!

Excellent hike on a beautiful day just after much of the ice was finally gone.

Novemer hike  Sucess!

Still with my Hawaiian tan hit the trail didn't expect all this snow what juxtaposition from two weeks ago. Rocky and some ice quite windy. Fun day with my cousin and his girl. Nice views Horrible traffic on way back to city put damper o. Day a bit.

Via Fox Hollow  Sucess!

There was quite a bit of snow on the route up from Fox Hollow, which presented a greater challenge. It was also bone-chilling cold up high. I had planned on going all the way to the ledges on the other side of the summit, but the snow slowed me down enough to change plans. I got to the summit and turned around.

Not your typical Catskills views  Sucess!

Ninety minutes up and a lot longer to get down, since I sat on the Ledges area for a bit and explored the campsite areas nearby. The summit for Panther was hardly marked at all.

Great hike  Sucess!

Moderate rain, heavy at times while starting out, tapering to a light rain/mist by the end. A cool, wet 42F with 25mph winds on the summit!
Views from Giant Ledge were phenomenal, despite the heavy fog enveloping the surrounding views. Overall a great experience. A bit rushed due to weather: took me just over 3hrs to complete. I'll definitely be back on a nicer day.

Quick out-and-back  Sucess!

Did Panther and Slide both as quick out-and-backs, towards 3500er requirements. A nice day, microspikes sufficed the whole time. Saw some folks in bare boots too.

Great views  Sucess!

Giant Ledge is one of my favorite spots in the Catskills. Camped here the night before doing Panther + most of the Burroughs loop, clockwise.

Nice Fall Day in the Catskills  Sucess!

Panther summit had great Balsam Fir fragrance and ok views, best views are definitely on the ledges. Fairly quiet hike in the morning, a bit busier on the way down in the afternoon.

Birthday Backpack  Sucess!

Visited here (Giants Ledge) with my brother Charlie back in July and since I missed Panther I decided to return.
This trip I spent a quiet night on top of Giants Ledge- no one else up there and I felt blessed indeed! Enjoyed great sunset and sunrise. Got water from good spring on the way up. Was visited by Ranger in the Morning who tried to fiqure out if I had camped illegially or not. As I was not taken to jail I climbed Panther.

Since that first visit I have returned here several times and I always enjoy the trip. It is usually a trail where you see few other hikers once you leave Giants Ledge and the views are great.

Panther and Giant Ledge  Sucess!

Climbed via the Giant Ledge - Panther Mountain - Fox Hollow Trail from Route 47. A pleasant late summer hike in the Catskills. The humidity obstructed some of the views from Giant Ledge but as the fog burnt off the views improved. Not much to see from the summit though.

Great hike in Aug of 2007  Sucess!

Climbed in the sun to Giant Ledge. When we got to Panther, the clouds came in and it started raining. Not much for views, but another great day and the rain gear got some use!
