Great to see some more Spanish peaks creeping into SP. Gives me something to do next time I am over there for a visit.
Great changes it is even nicer to see that development can be reversed now if you only can get people to respect and care for the places where they live. (We had the same problem in Canada here with creeping urbanization into wild areas. It takes time but people eventually come around.)
Just because it was decided that wildlife, plants and environment had to be protected. Laguna Grande and other lakes tended to be dirty because urban people didn't respect the habitual rules in wild areas. As a result many amphibious, like some little species of frogs, and reptiles like viper were in extinction threat. Also there were 3 ski resorts on the area and another near. Valcotos was one of the smaller resorts, so Comunidad de Madrid decided to buy it and create Peñalara Natural Park.
I think this fact set an example of wild areas management in Spain, even though I was one of the skiers that went there. If I collect some more information about this topic I'll add to the page. Also I'll soon add some rules to be respected in the Natural Park. Meanwhile I'd ask you a 4-stars vote, affectionately: DIEGO
Looks to be a good Page, though i am totally unfamiliar with the area. Your Photos are great, your links are both live and useful, the route descriptions impart of feeling of what its all about and the books make me curious about more information !!!! Thank you Diego !!!!!
5h max.
Very nice page! I thought the climb fromel Risco de los Claveles to Peñalara the mostinteresting. It reminded me of a version of the Knife Edge on Katahdin

Untitled CommentWhat a great page! A close friend of mine who I frequently backpack with is from Spain, and she loves the mountains in Spain. I can see why!
BTW: that Terminator guy needs to have his SP membership terminated.

Untitled CommentMuchas gracias desainme. Yep, that climb is one of the most interesting in Peñalara. I don't know Knife Edge on Katahdin. How long and narrow is it?
