Perito Moreno Glacier

Perito Moreno Glacier

And its high walls of blue ice 50 to 70 meters tall. Part of world's 3rd biggest fresh water reserve. 257 square km 30km long 5km wide (at the front) and in general 4km wide 50 to 70 m high above the water, and another 110m below water. Man that is a big chunk of ice!

Spectacular...

I hope to see something like this sometime. Was the ice braking off?

Great shot!

Re: Spectacular...

As a matter of fact, it is. Constantly. Notice at the photo some waves going around at the bottom...
Just a few seconds before, lke 20 or so, a piece as big as a car fell into the water...
The noise was so loud I think people could listen to it from miles away!

Superb photo!

That glacier is so enormous and yet so compact and yet full of shapes at the same time!

Re: Superb photo!

Easy to explain Eric.
At the left part (from this point of view) the glaciar moves kinda slowly, so it doesn't have so many sharp points or crevasses.
But on the right side (this photo), its velocity reaches 300m in just one year, that is fantasticly fast for glacier movement, so it cracks a lot, and it makes these amazing shapes we can see...crazy stuff!
:)

Looks like human travel

through this right side of the glacier would be rather fruitless.
