This peak is awesome! Aromatic pine forests, a fun, knife-edge scramble, and a solid climb in the final push to the summit.
My only complaint was how popular the trail was--there were a lot of people out today!

Winter Ascent via Red Pine Lake
A buddy and I started after work and skied up to Red Pine Lake. We camped there in the snow. We reached the top the next day. We were surprised how many people were on the trail. The trip out took way longer than expected.
Went with my father and uncle via the standard route, my first real experience with scrambling. Steep and long, but a scenic and enjoyable route from the beautiful Red Pine Lakes. Great summit views, signed the register, surprised to find some friendly chipmunks on the summit. Would recommend as a spectacular peak!

Post Night-Shift Hike
Hiked with Duc and Darby. Erin and Zack hiked with us to Red Pine Lake. Met Brooke and Ema at the top who got lost after going to Maybird so followed us down. Saw a couple tons of rock fall off the north side of the ridge just east of the peak. Luckily, no one was below. We watched the sunset as we waited for the Oktoberfest traffic to die down.

Several Ascents
Love this hike! The lakes are beautiful and provide excellent spots to refill water to lighten up the day pack. The view up top is outstanding and is one of the easier 11ers to navigate up and down - just follow the trail and people (on the weekends in the summer, of course).

We hiked up to Red Pine Lakes and made camp on Friday night. After some morning frustrations, we hiked the rest of the way to the top of Pfeif, where we heard a bunch of funny stories about wildlife. Many moose were spotted.

1st ascent of Pfeifferhorn
Fun hike via Red Pine Lake, then summit from the ridge. Beautiful fall colors and helpful people all along this popular trail. Was alone at the top, but passed about 6 people who were on the way down in various groups after the upper lake. Quite a popular route. Easy trail to find.
Climbed the Pfeifferhorn as part of the Beatout. Great views from the top! Climbed over to Upwop, and then more. Scrambling is fun and easy up the Pfeifferhorn and over to Upwop!
I have been up to Red Pine Lake twice before with the intention of summiting Pfeifferhorn, and both times I was thwarted. Finally made it this time! Gorgeous day, super fun ridge/scramble, and awesome views! The trail was littered with incredibly handsome mountain men all day, too. Can't ask for much more than that.

no pain no gain
Hiked the day after completing an XTERRA tri - not recommended. Coming down the trail came 30 yds from a bull moose grazing on stream below Red Pine lake. Stood watching him for 10 minutes. Was bummed not to have a camera ...
Many Ascents , Many Memories, Much Love for Pfeifferhorn
No need to list my ascents of Pfeifferhorn like a police rap sheet.
This mountain is a treasure. While I have only had opportunities to stand on its summit in the warm months, I am waiting for the day that some kind soul belays me on the NW face on a winter ascent.
Pretty please?

Among the best
July 30, 2013: Took Runner's World Gear Editor Jeff Dengate up for his introduction to the Wasatch/Rockies and first summit over 8,000 feet...made it with no problems and no altitude sickness despite starting at 11 feet that morning, catching a flight, and getting up above 11,000 feet less than 12 hours later. We had the summit to ourselves aside from a very large chipmunk who was NOT shy. Sat in the sun with no wind for close to half an hour before running back down to the car. Awesome day!
June 16, 2012: First time up. Went up Red Pine. Still lots of snow from just below red pine lake the rest of the way to the Alpine ridge which made the going very slow. I was blown away by the views from the summit---360 panorama views of mountains in every direction. Pretty breathtaking. The 72 degrees and sunny on the summit all alone on a Saturday was pretty nice too! Such a cool mountain.
