Phoca Rock

Phoca Rock

View of the south and east faces of Phoca Rock with the route outlined. There is easy scrambling around to the south face and a couple dirt class 4 moves to make one's way upward to the summit. -8/30/09 Photo credit: April Obern.

Nice job and

you may hold the record for the lowest elevation summit on the site! I've wondered about Phoca for years and you have piqued my interest once again - now I'll have to row out there and give it a try.

Re: Nice job and

Thanks! I was inspired after seeing Phoca detailed on one of the early climbing guides to the Gorge. If you're in the area, I highly recommend a paddle below the cliffs of Cape Horn. In latest summer one can land on the shore below the cliffs. I particularly recommend a scramble up to the base of the Cape Horn Falls. :-)
