Wow, what is this picture of? Normally I'd say wait unti later b/c of avvy conditions in Crescent Moon but it sounds like there's very little snow there!

EDIT: How about March?

I was on Signal Peak last friday, and I would say there was about 18 to 24" of snow on it. Not much fun.

I would join you all on Round Top, but I'm a big chicken. How about a SP gathering on Carpenter Hill.

Dude it's a walk up, you can handle it...just take the mule trail and we'll make fun of you when we reach the top...all you need is some snow shoes...

Don't underestimate my chickenheartedness.

There's actually lots of other easy stuff to snowshoe / scramble up back in there, like Elephants Back and The Sisters.

Some pics from last April - (full set here)

At the time I had broken my elbow about a month before and wasn't in the mood to do Round Top, so I went up to the Round Top-Sisters saddle instead, and then did the Sisters. Beautiful views from there.

Even just heading back in to look at frozen Winnemucca Lake or the other lakes in the area is fun. It's a beautiful area !

Good job quitting the cancer sticks dude !!

If Craig & Carolyn are going and / or Justin needs a carpooler, maybe I will break out my llama hat for this one. My friend Laura said she was interested in the couloir too. I'd be inclined to do this one more towards March-April, towards the tail end of ice season.

March 27 with a backup date of April 3rd sounds like a good plan to me. We had so much fun last time :)

This is gonna be great Dan !

For anyone new to the area -- the trailhead is the Carson Pass sno-park. There are restrooms at the trailhead.

You need to buy a sno-park permit to park there ($5/day or $25/season). They have a list of vendors on this site. They are kind of aggressive about ticketing people without zee pass. You can buy them at the Kirkwood store (among other places), which is just west of the Caples Lake dam.

You can park there & sleep in your car overnight, if desired. About a quarter mile west is the Meiss Meadow sno-park, in case the Carson Pass lot is full or something.

I usually avoid group things...but this looks like fun. I'm in. What kind of wine would be appropriate?

Does this mean we'll have to climb conservatively?

Sounds like a lot of fun. I will try to include myself.
Any date after February works. Is there a ski/snowshoe preference suggestion for this adventure? I actually do not own either.
