Adirondack Conditions post Irene

by Castlereagh » Mon Aug 29, 2011 3:26 am

I'd been planning to check out a few peaks Labour Day weekend...now I'm worried that blowdown and other debris from Irene might make already rough conditions worse. If any SP'ers are hiking in the area any updates as to trail conditions would definitely be appreciated!

Monitor this page: it'll be the first place you see trail condition reports.

Many reports of bridges out and other severe flood damage in the Eastern high peaks region around Keene Valley and St. Huberts. Road access to Adirondack Loj also compromised:

ugh, it looks like every road, trail, herd path, and their mothers are out of commission.

Still, I wonder if any of the clean up crews they'll have this coming weekend will have enough leeway to sneak up a peak or two in between picking up branches

From NYSDEC website:

TRAIL CLOSURES (8/29): ALL TRAILS in the EASTERN HIGH PEAKS WILDERNESS, GIANT MOUNTAIN WILDERNESS and DIX MOUNTAIN WILDERNESS have been CLOSED indefinitely due to extensive damage to trails and interior infrastructure. The trails will remain closed through Labor Day Weekend.

Apparently the Western areas of the park fared a little better.

Any hardy souls want to check out the Santanoni's or the Sewards?

Pretty interesting pictures of the new slides.
I am glad I got up Trap Dyke in late July. It looks a little muddy right now.
