Camping around Boston??

by DJFLIX2009 » Sun May 23, 2010 6:33 am

Hello fellow Sp'ers, i need some more advice..

Im quite the city guy but am looking for some local places to camp with my son. I want places that allow tents and fires, i am not necessarily looking for an established hut style campground.

any help would be appreciated, preferably looking in eastern massachusetts, but if theres some nice places over the border to NH, that's cool.

thank you

DJ

Harold Parker State Forest is probably the closest car tent camping to Boston. See also the list on the DCR site.

Cape Cod has some nice ocean-side camping, from what I've heard - but it's a bit of a drive (hour and a half from Boston, at least).

Other than Cape Cod, pickings in eastern MA will be slim.

There's an interactive map here:

(edit: remember that Google Maps isn't perfect. The first dot I clicked on was in the wrong location. Indian Head campground is on rte 3A in Plymouth, not in Quincy. That would be a VERY different camping experience...)

Here's a directory for NH:

You're not wanted...go to CT or RI instead.
