Durable Climbing helmets

by Roger » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:25 pm

I would appreciate the communities thoughts on a long lasting, good wearing, comfortable climbing helmet that would be used commercially by trekkers walking up a mountain where the helmets would only be worn for around 6-8 hours. There use is to prevent any injury in case small rocks fall down the approach and this is trek only though quite steep. Altitude is over 4800 - 5600 metres and cold so ventilation is not a factor
Really appreciate your input.

I'm a big fan of the Elios. More durable/longer lasting than the light weight foam helmets. Easy to adjust the fit and take on and off, even with heavy gloves/mitts on. I've had a couple of these. The one that I'm currently using got more than 1000 hours of use last season.

If you're using them commercially though, you probably want something cheaper. we use these:

They're bulky, heavy, and not terribly comfortable. But they're cheap, and your customers can abuse the hell out of them for years before you'll have to replace them. If you have the budget though, get something nicer.

+1 to both suggestions.
