Try Lisa Falls in Little Cottonwood Canyon. there is a way mellow 2 pitch route to the right of the falls. I want to say it goes at 5.4-5.5 but it's been a few years.

One of these is probably the route mfox has in mind. They're good suggestions, both really mellow.

Another great route for a first trad lead is Part Time Crack at Lizard Head Wall in Little Cottonwood. It's another mellow 5.5 with grippy rock and good gear everywhere.

School Room (5.6) in Little Cottonwood Canyon is a multi-pitch trad classic.
