Gore Range conditions? - Gore/Snow/Deluge Lakes

by bpv_UW » Sun Jun 24, 2012 4:13 am

Planning a quick 2-nighter for next week and looking at heading up Gore Creek with 1st night at either Gore or Snow Lake, over pass to Deluge Lake for 2nd night, then out via Deluge Creek drainage. Anyone have any condition information on that route? I know the snowpack is very light this year, so my guess is most of this should be clear, but I'm particularly interested in the status of the pass between Snow and Deluge Lakes. Anyone know if it's passable?

Thanks in advance for assistance!

saw the Gores today from Atlantic Peak - not much snow left on the Gores - we have a heat wave since days whatever was left is surely gone now -

thinking about it - as we have close to 100 F in Denver - you might wish to still hit snow :)

The Deluge trail is completely dry below the Snow/Valhalla saddle. I bet the Snow Lake side has a few easily avoided snow sections near the pass and no significant snow below.

3 HOT weeks ago; looking from the Snow/Valhalla saddle down to Deluge Lake and the dry trail.

2 weeks ago from Grand traverse (Snow Pk to the left; Valhalla out of pic to left. Less snow than there appears):

A belated thanks for the great info. We ended up foregoing the pass crossing and spending our time exploring the Gore and Snow Lake basins...not due to snow conditions (there was absolutely none on the Snow Lake side of the pass), but due to flatlander lack of acclimation and conditioning. Still a great trip though. Wildflowers were starting to get fairly prominent, would imagine they'll peak in the upper parts of those basins in a couple weeks or so.

Thanks again,
Brandon
