What trail did you take? Start time?

The Van H. Trail ... Loj to dam to top.

Started around 10 a.m.

Regarding water: It was very wet and muddy. You can't keep your feet dry for long.

In some areas, there's water flowing down the trail. There are also puddles you can't avoid. And some of the planks that are mounted over the wetter areas will give when you step in them, dunking your foot when you least expect it.

If it is warmish and you have the right shoes and socks, that's one thing.

If it is cold, you'd better be used to functioning with frigid feet.

Fun, though.

whoo, that's good time.

But those shoes aren't waterproof? Seems some trail shoes are and some aren't. Of course nothing's waterproof when it goes over the top.

I just googled those shoes and one site has them like 50 balloons less than the others.

I've actually managed to get 3mm neoprene socks (surf socks, low-cut) in my inov8 approach shoes. Neoprene socks really suck for all day on the trail; I typically use them as a last resort, when on snow. YMMV. Most shoes don't stretch enough to accommodate such thick socks.

You're right. They're not waterproof. Three years ago, that would have worried me. Now, however, because of adventure races and obstacle races (Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, etc.), hiking and running with wet feet doesn't bother me at all--as long as I have the right socks.

As you can see from this photo (old 295s on the bottom, new 295s on the top), there's no attempt at being waterproof. I actually drilled the hole in the bottom pair to let the water drain more quickly. Pleased with both shoes now. :P

Anyone know if Marcy is accessible despite the gov't shutdown?

In case you didn't catch the wry humor: the Adirondacks comprise a STATE peak, not directly affected by the gub'mint shutdown.

Nice job on the run. I ran up a few weeks ago to see how it would go and did it just over two hours. I messed my ankle a bit just past Marcy Dam and it really slowed me down I think I could have done it well under 2 if I hadn't.

GPS info for my run is here if you want to take a look:

You're a lot faster than I am. Congrats on your time.

How do you like your Ambit2? Considered buying an on-sale Ambit1 until I read about the 2's release.

Thanks, I'm not really a trail runner but it was fun to give it a try up Marcy.

I love the Ambit2, its a great tracking tool and seems to be pretty accurate. If you can get by the price I'd say go for it.

Was there snow on the ground? I'm hoping to avoid crampons.
