James Peak Couloir Conditions

by km_donovan » Sat May 19, 2012 2:02 am

Climbed Shooting Star today. The coulior is still in good shape. The right exit is melted out and is blocked with a cornice, the left exit was snow all the way to the top. We started at 5:30 a.m. from the Saint Mary's parking lot but a 4:00 a.m. would be better since the snow on the approach would have been more firm. Axes and crampons were all we needed. 2 axes recommend, microspikes would be useless.

Super Star looked like it would be a beating, very thin is some parts. Looks like some snow Saturday, Sunday would be a awesome day to go.

Bravo for the conditions report, KM.

Hey, you're in CO full-time now? No more of that Texas crap? :)

I have been here over 4 years, I love it. No more melting in the Texas heat.
