Folks visiting the Independence area might want to check out a superior fossil locality at nearby Mazourka Canyon along the western flanks of the Inyo Mountains (east side of Owens Valley). It preserves a great selection of roughly 485 to 415 million year-old invertebrate animal specimens. I've put up a personal, completely non-commercial page abut the site over at Paleozoic Era Fossils At Mazourka Canyon, Inyo County, California . Includes detailed text of a cyber-field trip, plus images of representative fossils and on-site photographs, as well.
