Sad news has come out that the Mount Vetter Lookout has burned to the ground.

I will dearly miss this little buddha temple in the San Gabriels!

I quite honestly had never heard of the Mt Vetter lookout :?:

Still unfortunate it's another structure that burned down though...

Really sad. I have fond memories of hiking, running, and biking to it. The San Gabriels will not be the same for a long, long time.

I think that was probably the last surviving lookout tower (and active too) in the San Gabriels wasn't it? All the others burned down. Now the last sentinal from another era is gone as well.

Oh, crap, I think you're right. :( There used to be one at S. Hawkins, but that's been gone for some years. Dang.

The South Hawkins tower burned down in the "Curve Fire", 7 years ago, almost to the day.
