Mt Whitney Trail

hi all
Is there much snow on the Whitney trail this time of year. I have a few friends heading up that way and they are asking me for advise on what kind of gear to bring. Crampons, axes, snow shoes?? Never been up that way myself so im not sure what they should expect. Any help would be much appreciated.
