Gateway Arch National Park

by Jow » Tue Jun 12, 2018 8:43 pm

So I'm doing a little recon for a roadtrip I'm doing this weekend that ends in St Louis and found out that technically the Gateway Arch in St Louis has been given National Park status upgraded from Monument. Personally I find this annoying as I don't think anything man made should be a National Park.

But alas it's been added to peakbagger list #56

Here is an article

sorry if this has been brought up before first I'm hearing.

I planned on visiting anyways since my hotel is block away but still don't like it...now I have to look at topo and find the highpoint

Hey Jow. FIrst I've heard of it also. That's bizarre. The NPS naming thing is very political. I think sites like this should be "National Historical Parks" or "National Monuments" but don't deserve "National Park" status. Not to denigrate the site, we visited it in 2009 and it's pretty cool.
