Mountaineering music worthy of notice

by Infected Mushroom » Tue Nov 28, 2006 4:27 am

Share the music that remindes you of "the feeling" you get in the mountains.
One of my favorites is here

This masterpiece makes one think of a fearsome and snowy landscape.

I'll usually throw in a Mars Volta cd when driving to a trailhead. Some good jammy stuff with some energy.

Let's see...

Sirabhorn and Midwestern Nights Dream from Pat Metheny's "Bright Size Life".
You Know You Know from Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Inner Mounting Flame".
Dream and Trilogy from Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Lost Trident Sessions".
La Danse Du Bonheur, Lady L, and India from Shakti's "A Handful of Beauty".
Lakeside Park, and parts I, V and VI of The Fountain of Lamneth from "Caress of Steel" by Rush.
Now Be Thankful, Fotheringay, End of A Holiday, Genesis Hall, Farewell Farewell, Late November, The Sea, Who Knows Where the Time Goes, and Meet on the Ledge, all by Fairport Convention.

Let It Roll from George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass".

Meddle by Pink Floyd--the entire album.

Some of these songs I'd listen to while on long-ago road trips. Listening to them later made me remember my experiences vividly. Other songs simply trigger that special mood on their own.

i can't really think of music i find worthy of the mountains. maybe on the ride up though. jawbreaker, social d, both good choices. usually listen to things that will get me psyched...in my eyes, the church, maybe some bad religion.

I write songs for my band, Infinity Pure, a few of them are about the mountains.
Supertramp reminds me of a time I was in the Sawtooths and it was raining.
Tumbing Dice by the Rolling Stones was stuck in my head all the way along Dinwoody Creek on my way toward Gannett, everytime I hear that song I get that picture of turquiose Dinwoody Creek and the surrounding peaks.
Mountain containing songs:
Misty Mountain Hop & Going to California- Led Zeppelin
Roll Me Away & Katmandu - Bob Seger
Call of the Wild - Chris Ledoux
Searchin for Bluer Skies & Home Again - Infinity Pure
Voodoo Chile - Jimmy Hendrix

"The White Tree" off the Lord of the Rings - Return of the King soundtrack goes through my head every time I summit. Nothing else consistent.

I have some tracks that i remember from particular trips, on the trip there in the car. They are always favs.
My fav artist who does many mountain references is Van Morrison.
Look out for
Philosopher stone
Coney Island
Back on Top
So Quiet in Here
And it Stoned me....

Plenty, but as ive seen from above its a very personal taste thing!!
