What about winter time ?

by mamo » Fri Dec 01, 2006 9:36 am

Hi , I'm from Ticinesi-Comasche prealps ( Italy ) ; till now , here we've had only autumn's climate with warm and sunny days . Nor cold neither a little snow till today , and forecast seem to confirm this for a long period .
A great climate-apocalyps announced !
:(

I'd like to know if there 's some places in the Alps with a little snow , or places where the winter is still arrived .
thanks to everybody

Hi,
in Germany there is nearly no snow! Till 2.000 m there is absolutely no snow and in higher areas there is little snow.
If you want to go skiing you have to go to the glacier skiing areas.

Yeah, around the same time last year the ski resorts were drowning in so much snow that they couldn't handle it and had to close down the pistes because of the avalanche danger. And this year we've been climbing in shorts and t-shirt all November. It is abolutely amazing, I can't remember when I last saw such a mild November.

Anyway, there is no place to have fun skiing in the Alps at this time. And no vertical ice to be expected anytime soon, either. :-(

Very wet and still very warm here in SE England.

Our (circa), 250 year old oak tree still has most of it's leaves on, although they have changed colour.

We were climbing in the Wilder Kaiser at the Gaudeamuspfeiler today. It is located above 2000m (6500ft). We were climbing in tshirts/shorts again and I got a sunburn. There is almost no snow at all there. If it didn't get dark at five, you could think it was late August.

In Interlaken it was somwhere around 9-10 or so today. Hardly even needed a jacket while walking around, especially if in the sun.

Thanks to everybody , I realized that in the whole old Europe from Scandinavian country to UK , to extreme western Portugal and to ours Alps is the same thing .
I'd like to make a question : are you afraid about this abnormally climate ?

Often I'm thinkin' about apocalyptic background of our earth ( like the ones in the famous movie ), and more and more I'm persauded these will be reality in a short period .

been boarding and mountaineering for some years in europe, decided 2 years ago to play the safe game, 1 week in Europe (no snow) another week in the USA breckenridge etc (plenty snow)

Time to spread the snow wings further a field. $ is weak, it can work out about even wether you go to the states or Europe

Once you have made the first step you will wonder why you didnt make it years ago.
