Hiking Near Montreux/Lausanne

by birdhead » Mon Aug 25, 2008 10:46 pm

Hi,
I will be in the Montreux/Lausanne area during the first week of October and will have a free day or two to do some hiking. I am looking for something that I can do in a day trip from the Montreux area that will have great alpine scenery (i.e. - high mountains, lakes, streams, etc). I would love to hear your suggestions on what the must do hikes are in that area. I do not mind strenuous hikes and I am willing to travel by train a bit, as long as I can do it in a one day outing. Thanks for the help!

My wife and I, and our two kids, took the cog train from Montreux to Roches de Nayes a month ago. You are not *in* the mountains but the views were nice as we hiked down to Montreux. We also did a hike out of Les Mosses, toward the south, to a lake-side auberge that had great lunch food.

None of this is mountaineering. You hear the tinkling of cow bells all the time, and are in rolling meadows that turn into ski areas in the winter.

Down by Martigny looks pretty, too.
