Went up today. Definitely still snow, but it is disappearing quickly. I was almost able to ride from the summit down to the ski hut. I hiked a short section without coverage to get across to the top of the bowl and then rode down the west side of the bowl where it still had the most snow. Great fun!

On Sunday (3/1/09) there was still a good deal of snow. The snow is consolidated and there’s good boot track to the Sierra Club Hut and up several different paths up the bowl. I got to glissade almost the whole way down to the hut. 8) The early morning snow was firm enough to accept crampons, but it was slush by noon.

Nice pics, Rick. I'm thinking about hitting Register Ridge this weekend; hopefully the bowl will still have coverage after this warm week.

tried RR on the 2/22. backed off because of waist deep snow. may have consolidated some, but they did get new snow yesterday.

Thinking of going up tomorrow morning. Does anyone know what the conditions are right now? Is there snow at the top? Do you need snowshoes or will shoes work?

I'm looking to head up Baldy this coming weekend. Anyone have good info on trail/summit conditions?

Thanks!

Updates for the week of March 15 please? I'd like to take skis up this coming Sunday (March 22) I'm repeating the same old question, will there still be enough snow to ski the bowl? It looks like its melting fast from down here.

I was up there last Friday the 13th. You could definitely ski the bowl. Slopes to lookers left were the best. Not sure you can ski from the summit.

On Saturday the 14th you could still ski from the summit. But it's definitely thinning out quickly now. Hope that helps.

Well, I was planning on climbing Baldy tomorrow, but I just called the Angeles National Forest number and they say it's under an avalanche warning and closed.

Bummer.
