Any suggestions for June.........Austria maybe

by mountainmanjohn » Tue Mar 24, 2009 5:31 pm

I have to drive from the UK to Kosova in mid June (two of us). We have time to stop and do a Mountain/route. Does anyone have a good suggestion for that time of year may be 2nd week of June. I know its not quite summer. Good Via Ferrata or Normal/PD type route on a Mountain. Cheers. John

Anything around here. Peralba, Porze, Coglians, Chiadenis all have ferrate. If there's too much snow you can climb one of the easier summits. I could recommend Rauchkofel from Valentinalm (near Plöckenpass). Easy to get to and a wonderful view. Coglians can be reached from the same place but the north face will have lots of snow in July. Also check out the single mountain pages.

I forgot the Kinigats. If you have more time you can trek the whole ridge (3 - 4 days). All along the old WW I supply trails...

Via ferrata south-east Austria

I've done a vary nice via ferrata that goes right on the Austrian/Slovenian border (closest city is Klagenfurt in Austria). The via ferrate goes up to a peak called Koschitnikturm and takes about 4-5 hours round trip.
