Ixta Partners March 28-31

by tjbst47 » Tue Jan 31, 2006 10:53 pm

I'm planning on visiting a friend in Mexico City probably from March 20-27. I'd like to climb Ixta following that if I can find a partner. I think this time of the year is approaching pretty close to the wet season, but I'd like to give it a go if conditions seem safe.

Why wouldn't you try to climb Ixta BEFORE visiting your friend, not after that? I have also heard, that the end of March is already a wet season.
Anyway, I will try to climb Ixta either in the mid-February or mid-March if manage to find partners.

I can't really go before March 20 because of my classes. I'd rather visit first to give myself time to acclimatize in Mexico City and probably climb Nevado de Toluca first. I know its less than ideal, but let me know if you are interested. Cheers, Troy

I've been successful on 6/6 climbs of Mexican Volcanoes during that time period, so either I was lucky or it's not that big of deal.

March is actually very dry still. If the rainy season starts in late April, it´s early. In March there may be one or two isolated thunderstorms or the slight chance of a winter storm, but chances are you´ll be dry the whole month.

I may be able to climb during that time but cannot commit to anything right now. Closer to the date i may let you know, if you´re still interested or haven´t found a partner.

Thanks for the info climber21. That would be great if you can make it. I booked tickets to Mexico City for March 20-31. I would like to dedicate the 27-31 for climbing. Probably go for a summit attempt on Ixta on 28th. If that works out, I would entertain catching some buses over to Orizaba for a summit attempt on the 30th, but that might be pushing it.
