I remember many years ago when I was getting into climbing and trying to avoid getting a real job, I wondered about the idea of guided walks in the Kozi area, including snowshoe tours. But I thought "guided hikes around Kozi? In Australia? Nah, no way, no one would ever go for that!". Shows what I know.

Thanks for the info guys. Do you know what the hike is like via Rams Head as compared with the other routes? Is it any more or less scenic?

Personally I would say less scenic, as you don't get the sense of being up on top of the range that you do up around Twynam/Carruthers etc. The nice rocky granite tors are also around the top of the walk up from Thredbo (after/above the chairlift) so you see them on that route too. If you go up the Ramshead from down on the (Thredbo) road you slog up a lot which is not as scenic as starting up high at Charlottes Pass.

Forgot to mention - CP is almost 500m higher than Thredbo, so you have less elevation gain from CP to get high. While it's OK to walk up the hill under the chairlift then continue to the summit of Kozi, descending this in reverse at the end of the day is something I always find a tedious, knee-jarring downer on which to end the day. But then riding down in the chairlift you'd just feel like a doofus!

BTW, tonight at Thredbo it's -8C. So probably around -15C up around Kozi.

I'll give it some thought but right now I think I'll hike up under the lift and meet my gal at the top. That way we can hike the last bit together. I'll probably take the lift down with her.

Im goin up there in a few weeks to try some new boots and crampons....how the hell im i goona walk on a steel grated track with crampons!....hopefully it will be under 4 foot of snow?????

A bit early in the season, I'd say, Ozclimb. Everything's probably gunna be soft and new. But you might have some luck playing with yer crampons around Blue Lake.

Try heading in from Charlotte Pass with XC skis and checking the lee-sides of the main range as you go.

thanks mate....yeah a few of us from work are going but just hiking up from near the golf course? (i think, then coming out above the chairlifts) set up camp somewhere near there, then go for summit the following day....
