Seems all the humans are all in that area as well.

Saw only two crews on the "Streak", one on the "REG" and we had the far south side to ourselves.

Lost count of all the cars parked at the Cathedral T/H, as usual.

Did about a day and a half of travel without seeing anyone... people don't make me scratch all day that I know of... glad you had better luck because I'm currently scratching til I bleed.

Not too bad in the evening at Young Lakes, but in the morning they came out in whole armies. Chased me away before I could eat my (or become their) breakfast.

just did a 3 day trip from Tioga Pass to Rush Creek.... very mellow mozzies in the Parker Pass area, as well as in the Parker Creek drainage... they got more excited in the Alger Lakes drainage, and then by the time we got to the Rush Creek drainage (we camped at Gem Lake) they were pretty damn ferocious.

Mineral King Area: July 12-14 Above timberline nothing, occasional thick spots in canyons and at lakes. Plan to camp in areas exposed to wind to avoid them.

Any reports for the Sabrina basin? Heading up Thurs.

As it is spring in the mountains, there are indeed mosquitoes present there, as they breed in standing water, itself often associated with the snow melt that results from the rising spring/summer temperatures & increased daylight hours.

I reduced the Tuolumne Meadows-area mosquito population by 32 over the weekend.

I am considering writing a trip report, but am at present undecided.

Yeah, that was something new. We nearly stepped on a dozen fist-sized toads while hiking the trails at night. Is it mating season or something?

Eastside updates anyone?

Mosquitos were bad but controllable with lots of 100% DEET in Lee Vining Canyon saturday. Sunday and Monday we were in Tuolumne and they were noticable in the campsites but not on the rock, and we didn't feel the need to use DEET (of course we may have been protected by accumulation of dirt at that point).

Anyone know how they are around Meysan Lake area? I am not worried about myself so much because my wife makes excellent bait, but she tend to get a bit irritated.
