Is it possible to have a comments section on each profile? Something similar to a Facebook Wall? I think it would be useful to leave general comments about someone, without being specific to one of their particular submissions (photos, TRs, etc).

Just an idea. :)

Do you really want some of our PnP contributors to have the power to write on your profile?

I suppose there could be an approval of some sorts.

"Contributors" is rather generous for some...

I would like to see something like this as well, often if I have a general comment I write something on the profile photo which may change in future.

I vote no on this idea. Go browse unmoderated PnP if you dare. There are some hairy cat-fights going on between otherwise really good people. I barely understand why this is. I think commenting on TRs and Picts is enough.

I'd vote no as well. On facebook, you choose the people that can post on your profile. Here it would be open to everyone.

You can always PM somebody. Pretty much the same thing, but it's not public.

Agreed. I can't imagine what kind of general comment from one person to another needs to be made in public, instead of just in a private message. I would be interested in seeing some examples, hypothetical or otherwise.

Like dayhiker I see no reason why it could not be PM'ed. This is not myspace or facebook.

+2. MySpace and Facebook are mega-creepy. Let's not turn SP into one of those.

One example would be "Welcome to SP!" If I write that on their profile photo, it's going to be buried. And to me, PMing something like that is awkward and sorta creepy. Private messages certainly serve a purpose, but I think there are times when public messages can serve a purpose as well.

And maybe if some of the hardcore PNPers ever decide to reconcile differences, it would be nice to give them the option of doing so publicly. Maybe it could contribute a sense of goodwill to the whole SP community!

If it would be done, I definitely think it should have an option for the profile owner to delete comments.

I just finished reading this:

"Delete my profile.
by Deleted User » Tue Apr 05, 2011 6:34 pm

First off I want to thank SP and some of it's members and the inspiraton they've given me over the past few years. Without this site and a few members I wouldn't have ever known that my uncle summitted right before he died on North Thunder Mountain back in 1995. However recently I've had issues with one member in particular trolling my work, which is unacceptable. SP should be a place to look forward to viewing, not dreading it. Some of you local folks may have aquired some of my mountains and rocks, hope that doesn't put too much of a burden on you. If it does I apologize now. I'll be out there on a summit or two a week, perhaps I'll run into some on you up there.

Thanks again to some of you who have really enhanced my life. However I need to leave SP at this point.

Regards, Cory, Wasatchvoyage."

Wouldn't you be inviting more of this kind abuse or something similar?

I don't do the "Social" sites per se and won't be here under those circumstances.

Just my $.02
