Summit on the Summit

by Alpinist » Mon Nov 02, 2009 2:14 am

Check out the latest banner ad running at the top of most SP pages; Summit on the Summit.

There's an interesting cast of performers, including Jessica Biel, going to climb Kilimanjaro to raise awareness and money for global clean water. So, where do I sign up for this trip?!

The site design is pretty cool, and I love the concept of having all the tweets/blog posts show up on the altitude meter

That's a fair point Chewy. I wonder though how much media attention they'd get for digging a well though. Climbing Kili, though hardly a significant mountaineering feat, will draw a lot more attention to the cause and therefore probably raise more money. It is afterall, the posterchild for melting glaciers. And when the glaciers are gone, the whole eco system around Kili will change drastically. Thus there is a connection with clean water.

At any rate, their intent is good.

Why is base camp at sea level? And why is there so much technology and beeping on that mountain? I've seen more pure climbing on Star Trek. My cynical $.02

If they wanted to make a statement, they would climb K2, and the survivors would be congratulated!

Yeah they should be climbing Mt Kenya. I'd like to see how Biel and the like cope with the vertical basalt columns of Batian!!

Owell I guess its better than them sitting home in their plush houses spending their millions.......

The expedition starts Thursday, Jan 7th.

Oh how I'd love to be one of Jessica Biel's porters. Pole pole...! :)

You're going to invite Jessica Biel on your HONEYMOON? That'll go over well....

Well, you know what they say. A man's reach should exceed his grasp.

The Honeymoon is not until September. You underestimate me M. With me as her personal porter attending to her every need, Ms Biel's head would be spinning. Though I'm sure she would blame it on the altitude.
