I just got a new Sony a230 DSLR Camera. Check out the picture quality. Whoo hoo. I can't wait to bring this thing to the mountains. Any other guys bring SLRs high up? Any recommendation how not to break my gear?

Condensation is your worst enemy! Bring a non weatherproof dslr from a cold place quickly to a warm one and moisture in the warmer air wil quickly condense quite heavily all over you camera and might ruin it quite quickly. In very cold places its ussually quite dry and it should not be an issue but in warmer climates you can get heavy condensation. Its best to keep the camera inside the camera bag when going from cold to warm so it can slowly get warm without getting moisture condensed all over it.

Out in the cold most cameras do great! (watch out for shorter battery life) since cold air is dry and dry is good for electronics (watch out for static electricity indoors though). Snow does little harm if the camera is cold and the snow is of the dry variety and its cold out (20's or less) just remember to dust it off before you take the camera to a warm place.

Its always a good idea to keep an extra set of batteries inside a warm pocket just in case.

Sold mine to buy a pair of high end boots :?

Agree that condensation will be one of the biggest issues. Not breaking it isn't THAT hard.
