I just took a look up there on Saturday December 5. Here are some photos. This will probably change if the storms in the current forecast materialize. The rest of the pics I took are here.

Thanks for the update, Kurt! Updates like this when you're able, after getting up there, appreciated by those of us who live a long drive away from the ice.

can you walk up and toprope ice here or did someone lead up and set it up?

You can walk around and set up a top rope on the right wall. There are a couple lines you can access by walking around. The rest need to be led. Everything on the center wall needs to be led. If the Bard Harrington wall forms you would need to lead these climbs too.

Edit: Just reread your question. I'm sure Kurt led the climb he has set up in his pictures.

I don't know; I get nervous whenever I see a nice, big, puffy down jacket in close proximity to swinging ice tools.

Tried to send you an e-mail via summit post but don't think it went through. Anyhow... had a great day of ice climbing at Lee Vining yesterday. Kurt took some cool photos. I'll be getting mine up in January.

Here are a few. The rest are here. Air temperatures are changing the conditions of the ice daily. One day when it's warmer you'll find softer ice that your tools will sink right in to. Then after a cold snap you'll find ice that's much more brittle and requires a bit more "heads up" with your technique.

Has anyone been in to Lee Vining in the last couple of weeks. Might run down for a day this week unless there is a reason not to.

Lee Vining, and the Main Wall in particular, could hardly be in better shape. Well, I guess Spiral Staircase could be a little fatter. As The Chief will surely attest, it is getting sunnier as the season progresses. Seems that everything that wanted to fall off did earlier in the week. And now it's forecast to get cooler and overcast. Should be good for a while now!

Been good the last entire week but got really drippy and wet today.
