Mt Aspiring, early 2010

by Mountain Bandit » Fri Dec 11, 2009 1:47 am

Hi all,

Having just climbed Mt Earnslaw last week in NZ, a couple of us are thinking of heading back to climb Mt Aspiring in February sometime. Is anyone planning to be on the mountain in February?

Also has anyone who has climbed Aspiring before have any tips for a beginner (pushing toward intermediate) mountaineer??

Cheers,
Paul.

God damn, I wish I could cross the pond and join you. Not having climbed Aspiring (always planned to) but having a few friends that have I'll say "be careful on the ice 'ramp' if you decide to take that route. By most accounts, Aspiring is a fairly easy climb to do, but people get complacent and that ice ramp has climbed lives before. The bottom of it can be riddled with crevases.

Anyhoo, enjoy ya trip! be sure to post a video and photos on youtube! :D

I'll be in Wanaka from 6th t0 13th Feb. I might be interested in going up French Ridge to the Quarterdeck or thereabouts with my daughter for a day trip. I was actually planning to do Shark's Tooth peak near the Aspiring car park (Raspberry Flat.)
