J Tree next week

by Fire4x4 » Wed Jan 27, 2010 5:06 am

My girl friend and I are going going down to Palm Springs next week and will be stopping by J Tree for a day. I know there are not a lot of sport routes in the area but can anyone give me some good areas/routes that are sport or can be set up with a TR up to a 5.9? TIA!

I was just there so I'll start you off. For all grades look at this list: http://www.joshuatreeclimb.com/ClimbsGu ... lsport.htm
Double Dip (5.6/5.7) and Black Tide (5.7) at Echo Rock would start you off nicely. Bolts are pretty widely spaced on JT "sport" routes.

Headstone rock near Ryan campground has a few bolted classics one is 5.6 and other 5.8 (Cryptic) well bolted and used to have bolted anchors on top. Can be crowded however

Also in the Echo Cove area is Sitting here in Limbo 5.9 well bolted and required a gear anchor on top, always one of my favs and never used to be anybody on it (unlike the others mentioned above in Echo Cove which usually have a line waiting for them)

<edit, added>
Another JT classic that is bolted, however the bolts are widely spaced would be Walk on the Wild Side. 5.7 I think its 3 pitches and all anchors are bolted
