Ice climbing @ x games

by jharrwyo » Mon Feb 01, 2010 3:44 am

I was watching the x games in aspen, co and got to wondering why thet don't form some ice there on the resort and have an ice climbing comp as part as the x games. If they can make those fancy half pipes and whatnot they can sure come up with some kickass ice walls.

Basically the reason is that watching ice climbing is not an adrenaline sport.

Additionally, the X Games crowd is not the kind of crowd that is into ice climbing. They are more along the lines of pants-around-the-hips, neon-colored-hats, underage-drinking-poser-snowboarder type. You figure most of the people here for the X Games would at least get our riding, but the mountains are less busy this weekend than they have been all winter!

That said, there are lots of ice climbing comps around here. Check out this one next weekend in Redstone.

way back when they had ice climbing as an event, both technical and speed climbing. Obviously it didn't last that long...

I watched an X-Games ice climbing event back in the day at Crested Butte, CO. My sister was managing a few climbers there. It was fun while it lasted
