Missing snowshoe

by EastKing » Sun Feb 07, 2010 8:04 am

I lost one of my snowshoes on Middle Chawaukum. It is lying between 3100-4600 feet. If you attempt this mountain and find the snowshoe please PM me.

Also the next three days will be the best time to attempt this peak. Six of us have broken a lot of trail here which with make this climb dramatically easier for others.

No - he kept walking for miles and miles before he noticed he was walking on one.

Reminder to all - always secure any equipment to your backpack by passing the strap through any available hole in your snowshoe/crampon/treking poles, etc.

Another good rule - after any rest break... examine the ground carefully for any "left behind" equipment.

My instructor says he has recovered a number of crampons on glaciers - most likely lost by climbers glisading down the slopes.

Post something on Cascadeclimbers, they have a "lost and found" forum that is very good.

Snowshoe found! :D It fell off my pack when I was coming down. I though I had it secure but obviously not. A special thanks to my friend Dave who went back up there on Wednesday to find it.

Nice ending

Reminds me of "Bert" a legend with the Mazamas... he went on a 6-miles hike up to a lake... took a dip. While removing his shorts... his car keys fell out among some rocks.

When he got back to the parking lot - no keys!

So, instead of a pleasant 12-mile hike that day, he did 24.
