Post 2010 Wildflower Pics Here...

Use this thread to post wildflower pics from the 2010 season.

Best links for following wildflowers I've seen so far:

Here's a couple of pics from the Antelope Valley Poppy Preserve from March 27, 2010.

(Taken just OUTSIDE of the reserve, which is where the best showing of poppies were at the time).

Allrighty, then. Spent all of yesterday back near the Carrizo Plain and remoter parts of 58, then going through the AMAZING Cottonwood Canyon off the 166 highway near New Cuyama and then checking out what were supposed to be amazing wildflowers off of Figueroa Mountain Road, but while the wildflowers up there were intense, they were localized to about one square acre, there were 40 other people up there and it was most vertical. Cottonwood Canyon was far better, almost like some sort of idealized heaven, and hardly anyone was there.

This was our second weekend in a row doing this, and both times the Carrizo Plain and monument haven't been particularly noteworthy (yet).

Having some odd focus issues w/the camera, but it was also very windy, so some pics may reflect that.

My g/f, hard at work, in the flowers, just to the west of the Grapevine Pass Ramada Inn, about 0630 hours. That's dedication.

From the same exact trip, but all taken by my g/f, who is 17,031 time better than I ever will be. Worth the click, believe me.

butitsadryheat wrote:Nice. I went to the Carrizo Plain/California Valley/Hwy 58 area in the afternoon. Lots of YELLOW!

The purple flowers at the base of the Grapevine are called "Blue Dick" (the ones you thought may be a cluster of hyacinth of some sort). There is also a lot of blue Lupine (spikes of purple).

Thanks! I didn't want to look like a complete tool so I guessed, even though I wasn't sure what they were ;-)

You're right. The overwhelming impression of anything near Soda Lake is YELLOW, and lots of it.
