Palisades Skiing!

by JedSMG » Sat Apr 10, 2010 12:46 am

I'm crossposting this from Teletips, mainly 'cause I got some sweet pictures of folks out on the Palisade Glacier, Moraine, and at Gayley Camp early afternoon 4/8. And you don't know I got 'em. 'Cause I was hidden. But they look pretty cool, and I'd be glad to share.
Just back from 3 days in the South Fork of Big Pine Creek- that might be my favorite ski drainage in the Sierra! Big bowls:

Technical skiing and climbing:

And incredible access. We skinned from the car door and glided back there three days later. That fresh snow took some managing- due north held powder, due south held corn, but in between, man, it could get bleak. We only had to do just a little mandatory crust skiing, and made the most of careful terrain selection to find the goods.
