cool stuff !! The mountains look cool. Seems like a major security threat to me, tho' when I went to Washington DC.........

Yeah, two years ago I tried using Google Earth to plan a trip in the Alps, but the mountains weren't much more than a bumpy sattelite picture (with the exception of some big peaks). Nowadays the detail is pretty amazing.

of course the first thing I did was go to Everest and zoom around the icefield. It is much better now than it used to be, although the detail isn't quite there yet. Then I went to Denali.... ha then Gannett.....meanwhile it is a gorgeous day outside.

Thankfully, my better half came in and yelled at me to stop wasting time!

I've never spent more than 14hrs straight on it.

I use Google Earth 3D screen shots to show routes during my slide shows.

Great for refreshing your mind of an area you haven't been to in a while, and planning alongside guidebooks

Around here (S NV), particularly Red Rock, the GE photos are often misregistered by about 200'. In some very nearby places, the maps are spot on. GE is supposed to use wgs84 for plotting gps tracks; it's not a problem with me selecting the wrong datum, but possibly a confusion on the datum transition near RR, by the people who register the maps. I've written to GE several times, and the misregistration was fixed for a while, but with newer maps, it came back.
