John Muir Trail Ski Trip April 13th-29th

by blissjocky » Sun May 02, 2010 7:13 pm

I skied from Mount Whitney to Mammoth Lakes the last couple of weeks. I will post more details and pics soon!

Conditions varied form deep powder to corn and/or ice. There was also some great skiing and it is going to get better!

Here is the link with a day by day acount, detailed gear list, and photos. Be sure to scroll all the way down for the photos.

Thanks,

Jay

Nice! (did I give you a very short ride on the Portal road 4/13?)

So sweet!

Is it difficult to initiate tele turns with a heavier pack on?

Great trip! Nice pics. Kudos to you for undertaking it solo, in this "late" winter, no less.
From the sounds of it, I take it you'd been on the JMT before?
And, similar to an above question, how heavy, est. was your pack?
And, just used a rainfly as your primary tent? Any problems with that?

Good work!

Awesome trip and report! But may I ask 2 questions:
What camera did you take? And in hindsight, how would you alter your gear list if at all?

Nice! Congrats on getting out and pulling off this trip. I really like how you went solo because you couldn't get a partner and still had a great time.

Jay,

I can't stop smiling. I've walked the JMT a bunch of times, but it's been my dream (and pretty much just a dream, as I can't ski too well) to ski it––thanks for doing it for me . . . now I gotta go back and look at your pics again. Congrats––it is EPIC.

Bob
