Quick question re:hiking Coyote Buttes, Vermillion Cliffs

by runawayreignbow » Thu May 20, 2010 8:30 am

I was thinking of taking my mom to this area this weekend to hike. She is pretty fit for almost 60 years of age but she doesn't like to scramble - talus is hard on her knees, scree on any steep areas is out of the question because I'm concerned about her safety. Does the trek to The Wave have any of this along the way? I read it's about 2.5 miles but just wanted to know if it's a relatively mild trek...haven't found detailed info on it.

Thanks very much in advance!

It's not a bad hike, the first bit is through a sandy wash, then the rest is a hike across the slickrock with no scrambling that requires the use of hands. The most difficult part of the hike is getting the permit. We couldn't get one, but managed to view the sights regardless.

You have permits for "The Wave"?

Permits

Thanks for advising me, for some reason I read that permits weren't needed for that particular area. Thanks very much for the description of the hike!
