It depends. Where are you looking to go and when?

Whitney should be OK. I haven't been into Split yet. I'd be a little concerned about some of the slopes above the Palisade Glacier as the temperatures warm up. We had some big slides in that area last year.

Has anyone had a good look at the U-notch lately? I'm planning to attempt N. Pal and Polemonium this weekend.

Hey Kurt,

I was hoping to maybe go up and do some skiing this weekend. I really dont care where I go, just want to find some good snow and stable conditions. Any recommendations?

Especially if there are any good options south of Big Pine, closer drive 8)

Thanks Man, see ya around sometime

Hey Blair,

I was just of Split Mtn yesterdays and there's continuous snow from the last hill below the tarn underneath Red Lake. It seems like for most of the Sierra from Big Pine north you have good snow coverage from about 10,500'. South of Big Pine I'm not sure about. If you were willing to go farther north there are tons of options available. A couple places I or friends of mine have been to recently include Rock Creek, Esha Canyon, and Mt. Dana off of Tioga Pass.

Pine Creek is fabby above 9500' or so for skis or just boots; no slowshoes req'd, snow is compacted and (seems) very stable; almost nothing in the way of recent slides

Thanks sharperblue, all that out of Big Pine was a option, will look into that

Hey Kurt, were up for whatever. What would you hit? Got anyone in your circle that has been up into Big Pine area like sharperblue said?

Here's a photo album from the Palisades May 14-17, 2010. There was patchy snow above First Lake then. I'm guessing you'll hit continuous snow this weekend at Third Lake.

So heres another idea. I have always wanted to do Sardine Canyon near Onion Valley. Has anyone here skiied it? Looks like a great day trip...

I was also thinking about Cirque peak, skiing the North Slopes...any Cottonwood Lakes pics recent floating about?

Big Pine looks fat, but I am just airing out my options...
