Grand Canyon overnight permits

by Denjem » Thu May 27, 2010 4:38 pm

How easy is it to get walk up backcountry permits this time of year? We will be starting at the South Rim on a mid week day. Doing the Grandview Loop. Any feed back would be nice. If it's impossible then might have to scrap it and head some other place.

Most of us can't answer the question because June is a terrible time to do the Grandview Trail and thus wouldn't try it then.

My guess would be that it wouldn't be that hard to find a permit, but that's just a guess since I would never try the trail in June and thus wouldn't have tried to get a permit.

So I guess the answer would have been "Yes you should be able to get a permit, but it is pretty hot and not many people do it this time of year." or something helpful to that effect.

I think the NWS is projecting about 100F at 4000' this week. It may be 10F cooler in a bit. What is your tolerance?

What do you plan to do for water?

Maybe, but that would just be guesswork. Along with most of us here, I would never try it that time of year so can't really speak from experience. It's hard to comment on something we've never tried, which is probably why no one answered the question.
