I thought all you needed to organize an expedition was the back of an envelope and a pen. :D

I think the best book ever written on the subject was the British "Lightweight Expeditions to the Great Ranges" written in the late 80s. It approached expedition climbing from similar point of view as going on a weekend trip with your partner to the Rockies or Sierra. A must read in my view.
