Longs Peak Place Names?

by MtnHermit » Fri Jul 02, 2010 2:53 pm

Been 20-years since I've been on Longs and I'm a bit rusty. Trying to figure out where the Fraser man fell. Mentioned the Narrows. Is the Narrows the 2' wide ledge from the top of the trough to the bottom of the Home Stretch?

Also, is their still snow/ice up there? Surely in the trough, but on the south face?

Yes, that's the Narrows. About a week ago, from across Glacier Gorge, we could see plenty of snow left on the western aspect of Longs, not just in the Trough, but also along the "trail" between Keyhole and Trough and higher up along some of the technical routes of the West Face. The southern aspect should have some snow lingering, but not much.

Was this what you were referring to?
I wasn't aware of any incident lately.
