I found myself admiring all these guys, Vitaley, Pellucid, Bob, whomever else Mike had in mind , more, as a result of reading this blog in its entireity this morning. I don't think I saw anything I judged negative.

To me, and I'm not alone here, this one of the things our sport is all about. Pushing yourself as hard as you can. Other sports as well. Seems obvious it makes us better humans, physically and mentally.

So Mike looks at all this differently.

Michael looks at it like a runner who says "I've run a mile in 4:30. I think that's good enough." Or a basketball player who is satisfied with his team's 50-50 record. Doing any more would cause pain, and seems like a lot of work.

I don't have a problem with criticism of SP. There are some valid criticisms to be made--the website, and the people themselves are not perfect. But it would be a lot less irritating coming from someone who wasn't so hypocritical (as has been pointed out).

Is it any wonder why the guy is upset though? Even if he's not an "insider," he's surely seen all the mockery of the Seven Summits folks, of being dragged up by a guide, and of being the first ______ to summit Everest--all of which apply to his wife's adventure. I don't think it's a shock that he doesn't like SP. Some people take that shit a little too personally, especially if they're a bit insecure about it to begin with.

I can't believe it. Five pages about this fool in 20 hours. You are taking this way too seriously (as Chief might have said)!

I´ve just read bits of the article. It´s interesting that his slating off of summitpost (true at times) is exactly what seems then to have then taken place on that forum. Funny old world.

Yeah, but this fool obviously runs in the same circles as a lot of the main players on this site. So it's interesting.

It's worth reading if only for the cringe-worthy bits of prose.

Re: Bob Burd: "Your disrespect for the mountains is beyond reproach."

.....I don't think that sentence means what he thinks it does.
