Ok folks, I won't have you sift through the run-on dialog and blow-by-blow moments of the trip but keep it simple with captions attached to the photos. Bottom line, Pat Brennan showed me a crag where he put up a route with his wife Lori, a few years back. Deb and I wanted to do a backcountry FA of our own this year and this small little crag looked like the ideal fun casual weekend project. So, off we headed during the long Labor Day weekend....


Our objective: Golden Trout Crag. The route takes on the obvious buttress to the right.

Half way up Pitch #1. The groove below offered only one placement.....a blue/green offset Alien. The rest was flaring.

You are correct! But we were fairly well-hidden. And don't go for Dave's tears over carrying my tiny little pack. Guess who carried over half her body weight in and out!

Congrats Dave and Deb, that is a sweet looking climb. I might have to do some research and exploring.

Mulkey Meadows has no rock. Only horrid tamped out trail and vicious nasty meadows filled with cow pies mud and bugs.


I don't have strong opinion about it though.

I'll agree re: cow pies and mud and bugs, but the only reason that was my guess is because there is a fine-looking crag on the north side of the meadow (below Trail Peak?). I've got a picture...somewhere... I'll dig it out and scan it, and post to this thread.
