I'm looking to climb in the Lone Peak Cirque while the temps are still moderate, I'm wondering about a water supply at this time of year. For those of you familiar with the area, is there year-round water in the Cirque? If not, what are the closest sources and what's the best camp location other than the Cirque itself?

The only time I've seen water in the cirque is when there's plenty of snow left over; otherwise there's none. Which route are you taking up?

That's what I figured, but someone mentioned there was still snow up there on Labor Day. Can anyone confirm that? The route we're looking at is Open Book on the Summit Wall. I'm simply way too lazy to do it as a day climb, so maybe a night or two up there would make it nice and peaceful.

The spring on the Bear Canyon trail is pretty trusty, but it is not near the cirque.

It's really dry there in late summer / early fall. There is running water in the Hamongogs but it's a long way from where you want to be. There is also a spring near the outlaw cabin which may have water upstream of the cabin even when the main creek is already dry ... but I think it all dries up late in the season too.

This is the only reliable source I know of up there.

Might want to ask on mountainproject or utahclimbers if you haven't already. Surely someone has been up there in the last week and will know specifically.

Yeah, I've asked around on all the various climbing sites and the info is the same. There was a bit of snow still in the cirque on Labor Day, but it's gone now. Oh well, next year!
