You beat me to it Scott. Had a list of other suggestions and that one was second on the list. Hoping it won't be too hard to have those automatically go away after the end date of the trip.

Gangolf!

This will ruin 1655 Who was he? pages.

What to do?

From the “Who was he?” instructions:

4b. Or use Gangolf's method: Upload the picture to SP here (check Image), use the link for e.g. the small representation of the picture, like this example
http://www.summitpost.org/images/small/142051.jpg
After you posted here, simply delete the picture page. The image will stay on this thread.

Well - if that loophole will be closed we got to find another one. The first 800 pages (or so) of that thread have been ruined already by the last house-cleaning measure a couple of years ago.

With no instructions regarding what "save" means, if I add something to archives does that mean it won't go the way of all things?

Yesterday I read in this or another thread that all is supposed to go that is more than 1 yr old, no matter inbox or archive. So I started the arduous proces of copying what's important to a word file...

A function to back up it all locally could be a suggestion for a future improvement.

Haha, too late, already copied and deleted them, others may benefit from it though :)
Anyway, thanks for all the maintenance, Matt!

Matt, that's good to know. If I wanna keep an old version for some reason, e.g. the as-adopted version of an adopted page, while editing I've got to remember to delete the intermediate versions so that the one to be kept won't be accidentally wiped out! I think this should be shouted aloud so that all page authors know.

There is already a script that runs every night that deletes all but the three most recent historical versions of a page. If you know of a page that has more than three historical versions, let me know and I'll look into why it has that many.

Here's a page that has WAY more than three. I'd be glad to delete the old historical versions, but it's in the "Gear" section, and there's no way to do it.

It will be. They might not even notice it till they see this thread.

Well, this did not work out!

Almost all of my archieved messages older that one year got deleted!

Montana Matt wrote:Hmmm, that shouldn't be the case. I just took a look at the script again and it's definitely checking if the message is archived and then skipping deleting it if it is. Anyone else have the same issue?

Not me. A few days ago, I archived some messages from 2007, and they're still there.
