Hi everybody,

a couple of weeks ago I found myself owner of the Dolomites page. Marco, the previous owner had transferred it to me (without telling me). I have now rewritten the page completely but am sure that lots of info is still missing. Especially, in the books section currently only German books are listed. I know some good (but old) Italian books but would welcome it very much if someone could provide me with info about hiking / ferrata / climbing guidebooks. Also, the books are missing for the English language.

I'd add that the Memmel/Kohler book is also available in English. There's also another good (more comprehensive) climbing guidebook (2-vol set, east/west) by some British author. Lastly, I'd add that Munich is another good close-by airport (I believe it's closer than Milan...& being larger likely offers more/cheaper flight options).

Yes, always interested. I also did an amazon quick search but since I don't know the books I'm not sure whether I can recommend them.

Memmel / Köhler: yes I know that you've been using it. Is it really so sketchy? German readers claim that the authors must have done some routes in a hurry and in bad conditions and draw the conclusion that they aren't worth it. Come to think of it I must have the topo CD for the book lying around somewhere. Maybe I should see for myself

Gangolf, we've never had a problem with the Memmel/Kohler book but that's of course basing it on a small subset of routes we've done. I've always liked the "Select Climbs" sort of guidebooks - gives us out-of-towners a nice compact starting set. I'll look up that English one at home tonight & let you know. Sounds like the Dolomites page found the right owner.
