Things to do near Hanover

by bgriffs » Wed Dec 01, 2010 5:39 pm

I'll be in the Hanover area for a few days next week and was wondering if there are any good hikes or peaks nearby. I won't be able to travel too far, maybe 30 min or so, because I need to stay close to that area. Thanks for any recommendations or advice.

Its the closest your going to get of anything half decent.

Also Gettysburg is a nice Historic place with some short hikes and a great museum.

Which Hanover?

Hanover, PA? I will defer to Hotoven.

Hanover, VA I know nothing about, my guess is you'd need to head west about 100 miles to reach some hills.

Hanover, NH is within striking range of both the Greens and the Whites. Try Mt Moosilauke at the southwest end of the Whites to get above treeline. Further south, Mt Cardigan is close to Hanover and offers tons of bang for the buck, and you might also consider Mt Kearsarge (a.k.a. Kearsarge South). A couple of small peaks can also be reached by following the AT starting right in Hanover.

Hanover NH-
Mt Cube is pretty close, also there is a nice hike to the top of the cliffs in fairlee VT. (Exit 15- visible from Rt. 91) But it gets closed during Falcon nesting season.
