Tokapah Falls.....Please, PLEASE form up!

by Dave Daly » Wed Dec 01, 2010 2:51 am

So, anyone think La Nina will permit any fat ice to form up at Tokapah?

Please bless us with your magic, oh mighty Ice Gawdz!!! :!: :!:

Dave..

La Nina's are proverbially COLD and DRY thus creating a perfect enviro for good Ice, anywhere.

Toka and most if not all CA Winter Water Ice are a result/dependent on the previous years precep and table/creek/spring flows.

That entire area had a higher than normal snow pack last winter and from what some folks tell me about the stream and creek flows on the westside, Toka should be fat this season.

Hell, LVC is fatter than normal for this time of the year....Went had a looksee this past Sunday. Also, checked out the natural high water sources two weeks ago the day before TP was closed perm for the season. They were all flowing higher volume than normal.

Should be the same gig for Toka...

No direct info, but I've been watching the temps lately and it's been pretty cold in the vicinity. I get the impression there is lots of snow on the ground and with the clear weather things should get more stable in the surrounding bowl towards the end of the week. Lots of snow also means the snowbridges over the creek should be in good shape.

So theoretically speaking it might be worth checking out .. it's only a mile and a half stroll up the canyon. Please take pics of Moonage Daydream if you do :)

I live locally by the park and was just thinking on my way into work today that it would be cool to take a walk back there and check things out. I am not making any promises but I just might take a peek this weekend since it seems we are entering a period of stable weather. If I happen to make it up there I will for sure post some pics for everyone....:)

Went for a look on Friday afternoon. Despite overnight temps in the 20's, I guess it was just too warm during the day during the past couple weeks and nothing really looked worth climbing.

Nothing left even worth bouldering.

Moonage Daydream

Bottom pitch looked to have fallen down, leaving an overhang.

Apparently this looked pretty good two weeks ago.

We went for a snow hike the next day instead -- great springlike snowpack, didn't really need snowshoes.

They got some new snow yesterday, and the weather is supposed to be 10F cooler until Friday, when it starts warming back up.
